I am thinking of building a new pc, I dont want to spend a lot of cash, but i am hearing a lot about amd 64 venice cpu's, the spec i got at the mo is:

pentium 4 @ 2.8gig 800fsb
512meg ram
asus p4p800s se

The reason i want to change is that i have had a pci express graphics card given to me. plus skt 478 is getting a bit dated now.

so the question i am asking would i be getting a faster machine with a amd 64 cpu(3200+) against my pentium?
I use my pc a lot for mpeg decoding, and playing the odd game

sorry if it sounds a bit of a stuppid question, but if u dont ask you dont get.

thanx guys!!!!!!!

You will see a massive boost in encoding going dual core. That would be my advice. With the x2 3800 coming in at around £190 you really can't go wrong.

Tie this in with a good overclock 2.6ghz and your pc will fly! :)

Get a nice mobo like the DFI,Asus or Epox to go with that Pci-e gfx
