Hi there,

I have an old gigabyte nforce k8nxp-sli mobo which i have flashed to rev f9 to handle an athlon x2 4600+dual core.

gfx is 8800gts 640mb
2gb mem

It works very well under xp but is soo flaky with vista. This maybe to do with the realtek AC97 audio but who knows.

Anyway I want to uprade to something a, faster and b, more vista/dual core friendly.

I can't decide between quad core q6600 and core 2 duo wolfdale 2.66, also as I am running a dell 3007wfp so need something to drive high res gfx. Should i get an nvidia mobo now like the PN5-D or an intel option? I am worried the nforce chipset will still be flakey for vista but may want the option to go sli due to the native res (2500x1600) on my monitor.

what do people think?

Help please I want to order soon..... or do people think I won't enough of a boost over my current system to warrant to expense!?!?

Any help / comments appreciated

Melks

Well I would defo get a quad core better at handling multiple programs and future proofed if ever there was such a thing... Supreme commander is said to utilise the four cores .

I would get a quad they clock very well even on stock cooling you should hit 3Ghz.
