Advice on new Macbook

So I have a late 2009 MBP which seems to still be going strong but I do feel the urge to upgrade, mainly as my circumstances have changed. I now do a lot of travelling back n forth to work on the train and my 15" 2009 is just to big and bulky for that. I see the release of the new Airs yesterday but I am unsure if this is right for me as I would ideally want retina and a network connection for linking to my Dj equipment though having said that its not critical as I'll still have the old MBP for that.

The air would be ideal in size for travelling it's just the screen that's a let down though the price is nice. Is there expected to be a new release of the 13" MBP any time soon?

It's expected that the 'standard' Pro will be phased out entirely this year, and there's rumours of the Air being condensed down into a single 12" model, probably with a retina screen too.

Neither the rMBP or Air have an ethernet port, although a usb to ethernet adaptor is quite cheap

So is the the MBP range is not being renewed, rather its being phased out and completely replaced by the Air range?

As for the Pioneer CDJ 2000's they have an RJ45 port on the back allowing you to hook up and drag/drop mp3s onto the decks.

A new machine for me is mainly for travel and doing work on the go etc.

It will likely be replaced entirely by MacBook Pros with Retina Displays.

The 13" and 15" retina MBPs have 2x Thunderbolt ports, which with an adapter will give you a RJ45 port.

The MacBook Air has 1x Thunderbolt for this too.

Sounds like a rMBP 13" would be a good shout. It's pretty much the same size as the Air but has a much better screen and is slightly faster.

I find the 13" MacBooks the perfect size for a laptop. If you need anymore screen space chances are you'll have access to a external monitor. :)

Air all day long for me, the form is better suited for me personally.

I bought a rMBP and sent it back, it didn't feel as nice to use as the Air. Plus, although the retina screen is a thing of beauty natively you lose screen real estate, which although it sounds minor was actually quite a big issue.

I appreciate you can scale the screen to 1440, but i found by doing that the OS seemed to lag. This was when Mavericks had only recently been released mind, so it's possible those issues have been ironed out.

The air has just had a price drop, along with a minor spec increase as well if that makes a difference to you.

Aye I've heard rumors they may merge the MBP and Air range into one so will hold for now. Also the possibility I might get a laptop via work so wait n see.

Can you not connect one via usb and then link them together? I can't say I've ever had a problem loading tracks onto any Pioneer decks from a laptop via USB, I thought the RJ45 on the 2000 was so that you only needed to plug a single USB or SD card in when using Rekordbox tracks?

On that note, I use a rMBP myself, but I also do photography. I also don't lack connectivity myself, seeing as I use the DDJ-SX controller rather than a CDJ/Mixer setup, but a USB hub would be an easy addition if needed.
