BT have just finished installing a new greenbox near my home and the big sticker has been place on it.

My Old broadband package is out of contract. It was fastest possible speed unlimited FTTC for £32.12+£16.99. Which they have now switched to BT Option 3 with a max speed of 17mb!!

Was quite the distance from the old green box and was getting 17mb down 1mb up. Used to get less than a MB before.

When I hit the upgrade link it is showing You can get superfast BT Infinity available. 36Mb-55Mb Estimated download speed range***

The two packages that I like the look of is

Unlimited BT Infinity 1 + Weekend Calls online Exclusive

Up to 38Mb speed
£10/mth
£16.99 /mth line rental
£35 Infinity activation fee
12 month contract

Unlimited BT Infinity 2 + Evening & Weekend Calls
Up to 76Mb speed
£30/mth
£16.99 /mth line rental
12 month contract

Ideally I would like the best possible speed but their website is saying up to 55mb for my location do you think the possible 17mb extra is worth the extra money?

When I signed up with BT just over a year ago they quoted me speeds of 66mb. I was actually getting 75mb so I wouldn't worry about that.

I have just cancelled with BT and signed up with Plusnet as they are a lot cheaper. I never had any problems with BT I just found a better deal.

That's good to know just a bit worried for going for option 2 and getting say 42mb.

When I signed up a few years ago was told a speed around 10-12 ended up with 17mb on the old green box

A lot cheaper?
I'll have to go and look. When I was working everything out about three months ago there really wasn't much between the two. A couple of £ a month I don't personally class as "a lot", but maybe things are different now.
How much cheaper are you talking?

I can confirm plusnet is cheaper for the same packages, also look at going via topcash or quid co. BT is expensive. I've got a discount on my remaining 10 months as I called and complained about some stuff. But once that ends I'll be looking at switching my TV to sky and my broadband to plusnet.

Use Plusnet its the BT product just cheaper, Dont worry about the speed thing i get an estimated 58m download but i actually get 73-74 and 19up. I used to have the BT product but wanted a static i.p so went to plusnet. Would never go back to BT again.

Have just checked plusnet its working out more expensive than that current BT Deal. 18 month contract instead of 12. 6 months free but then 12 months at 14.99pm.

Plusnet fibre tends to be cheaper(p.s. Plusnet offer 40/2 FTTC not BT's 40/10 FTTC) - unless you take advantage of BT's cashback and vouchers. BT have a £10/month unlimited Infinity 1 offer with £125 Sainsburys voucher and check TCB/Quidco for significant cashback(I got £157 from TCB) - means I'm paying a net £8/month over 12 months for fibre and line rental combined. Good deal.

gahhhh

Decided to go the cheaper package then upgrade if needed.

But when I hit order it removes unLimited BT infinity option 1 then replaces it with option 2 at £30....

The 76Mb broadband is cheaper by £10 per month with Plusnet for a start. The line rental is another £1 a month cheaper. Anytime calls £1.50 a month cheaper.

My average bills with BT were around £66 per month. With Plusnet my monthly bill will be £44. So yeah, £22 pound a month is a lot cheaper for the same thing.

Turned out I was still on a contract for my broadband but btsport had run out.

So I just upgraded to unlimited option 2 and the TV pack.
