Advice on OS move

I'm fairly adept at most things PC related however I've just ordered an MP510 1TB SSD to swap for a 512GB (think Samsung) SSD in my Asus Rog Zephyrus.

It's the one thing that always bugged me is the lack of storage and the fact it was a single nvme. I'm awaiting delivery on Wednesday of the new component but my question is: as there is only a single slot on the laptop for storage, what's the best way to move the OS to ensure it recognises the licence?

I know the licence is generally tied to the machine but do I need to deactivate it to reactivate on the new SSD or will windows recognise the laptop when I reinstall the OS from USB? I'm not bothered about losing any data as it's already backed up but I don't want to lose the 10 Pro licence by making a mistake or Windows thinking it's a clone etc. Googling just brings up all the clone software which is of no use to me for this move.

Get yourself a usb nvme slot and clone it straight over.

Changing your HDD or SSD won't change the activation, it's only when you change your motherboard that Windows 10 won't automatically reactivate if your doing a clean install instead.

Cool thank you, thought it was motherboard related but wasn't sure on whether changing the install disk would be an issue. I looked at getting a USB nvme slot but I've only recently done a fresh install after getting the battery replaced through rma. So I don't have any data that I need to keep and the drivers etc I can just redownload.

If you link your windows install to a Microsoft account, that should provide some protection in the event of it not automatically activating (did this moving from sandy bridge to ryzen and worked without issue).

It worked with a reinstall on the new SSD after signing into windows. It showed as Windows home. The Pro licence took a few days to activate again for some reason.
