Advice on Overclocking

I have an Abit IP35 Pro board with a Q6600 CPU and 2Gb OCZ PC2-8500 ram. I was purchase as an over-clocking kit (from Overclockers UK) some years ago but I have never got round to over-clocking it.
I have just rebuilt it with a new Samsung 840 Pro SSD and win 8.1 64bit. Pro
2Gb was sufficient for 32bit XP but not for 64 Bit Win 7 (which I have been running for 3 years) so I purchased a pair of OCZ Gold PC2-8500 which have been running fine alongside the original 2gb.
I have now decided to over-clock the board but find I have two sets of memory with different timings. The original 2Gb SLI pair is 5-5-5-15 but the OCZ Gold are 5-6-6-18??.
My questions are
1) If I over-clock the CPU do I have to set the memory timing manually or can I safely leave the at "By SPD"?
2) If not can I set the timings at 5-5-5-15 which will affect all the ram and if so will I have instability problems?
I have tried desperately to get some identical OCZ PC-2 8500 but its pretty rare and have been outbid each time.
If not OCZ is there any other suitable DDR2- PC8500 ram still available

On the Q6600 (make sure its the G0 stepping version), just boost the bus speed so it matches 3ghz and reboot.

the q6600 will happily do 3ghz all day every day!

run a prime95 small fft test and watch the temps don't go over 65C

Thanks for the reply CinderzFTW.
Are you suggesting just overclocking the CPU and leaving the ram as SPD and not worry about manual settings?

Would this allow me to carry on using the mismatched ram?

they wont be mismatched once actually installed in the machine.

One will downclock to the settings of the slower ram module and will run at the same speed.

Its like buying some ddr3 1600mhz and wacking it in with some 1333mhz modules.. it will just downclock to 1333mhz.
