Hey guys,

In the next week or so I will buy the parts to put together a new rig, its main goal will be gaming. I was just wondering what you guys would recommend. I am looking at 16GB of ram and probably a i5 since from what I read you only need an i7 if you want to do video proccessing and stuff? I haven't built a rig in a very long time but I am confident I can do it. This is just for the rig, while I need to get a new operating system its separate to the budget. Also is it worth waiting for that black friday crap?

Wait for Black Friday... Its worth waiting for... especially if you are buying from overclockers.

Yeah I will be getting an OS with it, probably windows 7 since still not sure about 10 yet, but its not included in the top end of the budget, basically the budget was just for the tower and I have a different budget for any extras I need. I was thinking the extra power incase I want to maybe go SLI at a later date and stuff

best off with 8.1, its the same price as 7 and obviously is more updated..

i think from my understanding, if you want to SLI 980s you need a pretty wide case? is the case you chosen quite big?

That Ram is expensive. Here are a few cheaper options.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £448.81
(includes shipping: £9.90)

The Corsair H110i GT is slightly cheaper and has a bigger rad/fans. It will fit fine in the Air 540.

Total: £100.69
(includes shipping: £8.70)

Thanks so far guys, sorry I haven't replied work has been no stop. I will probably look at the different cooler thanks lee32uk. Regarding the RAM, of the new ones you linked which do you feel is the best?

Regarding Windows 8.1 FixupSellon, eeeeewwwwwwwww lol . In all seriously I was thinking of windows 7 or 10 because of windows track record of producing a good OS then a terrible one. Also I was leaning to 7 because that is the one I have on this machine and more games at the minute seem to work on it and I can always take the free upgrade to 10. I need to look into whether the case can fit two 980ti , but Im not even sure if SLI is even worth it for gaming at this stage

i agree some games do run better on 7 especially if you need to use the 'compatibility' options and until i got my 8.1 system i was always using 7 or perhaps a linux alternative, but thats down to what i know and what the computer allows..

but still, for the price i would get 8.1(maybe because i have a 7 iso), either way thats like an after thought ;)

Just wondering what you guys think of the i5 vs i7 debate? Its it worth getting an I7 if I am only going to game or should I just stick with an I5 ?

If you are only gaming then I would stick with an i5. You can always upgrade to an i7 in the future if you need to.

You could also cut down on the cooler as you don't really need that much cooling power. If you want the water cooler for looks though, then go with it.

As for the Ram I would just go with the cheapest out of the ones I posted, unless you prefer the aesthetics of another kit. They are all good brands.

So I swapped out the H100i for the H110i like you suggested and I think I am close to having the system. The next question is on the RAM I can go for the

1 x Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2A24= £85.99

but what do you think, is 32GB ram overkill? Cause I could go for

Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (CMK32GX4M4A2400C1

Okay well this is what I have got then as the basic build

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,519.51
(includes shipping: £14.70)

May try think about adding some custom parts like new fans and cables, what do you guys think ?

Oh and just to add, do you think I could do some streaming on say twitch with this build if my pidgeon carrier internet ever allows it ?

Get some SP fans for the radiator. Stock fans are not usually that good. Corsair static Pressure fans and use the red rings to blend in with your red theme :)
