OK so this little lot comes to £869 or there abouts I have a cap of around £1000 so am also considering going for an i5 750 overclocked bundle.

I intend to use the PC mainly for work and university this will involve a lot of multitasking doing design and development work using apps like photoshop, dreamweaver etc.

I'm not a massive gamer but would like a system that is capable of running newer games with reasonably high graphics settings when I want to let off some steam.

Specifically how is the compatibility on the gear above is it a good match? Do I need anything extra to the above items, cables etc? In terms of graphics cards low end to high end how does the GTX 275 fair? I like Nvidia, its a brand I've always gone for but can I get a better ATI for the money? I don't really know how the cards compare. I know people say neither brand is clearly better than the other for games but how about for graphics work with the likes of Photoshop?

I've built PCs in the past but its a long time ago so any input much appreciated.

it looks good, however a few things, don't get the GTX275 unless you really have too, get a HD5770, okay granted it may not be as fast but the GTX275 will only be a few frames faster in any case, also the HD5770 is cheaper, uses less power, and runs cooler

not sure on the HDD I would be inclinded to get the samsung spinpoint 1TB

that bundle http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-010-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1333? also I belive the I3 is only dual core not a quad

and means your at uni you can get Win 7 for like £40-50

OK so assuming I go down the ATI route I have a suggestion of a 5770 or a 4890 how do they compare? They seem very similar in price so I guess I cant just assume like with most things higher model numbers means better?

I don't see anywhere offering the full version of Windows cheap to students only the upgrade which is no good to me as I'm moving over from dare I say the word on here, a Mac :S I have shaved 20quid off my selection above by going OEM though.

the 4980 is a tiny bit quicker. But the 5770 has dx11, consumes almost half the power of the 4890, much cooler, quieter...

i would go for 5770 as its got Dx11 better for future games,

i would also consider going I5 / I7 it should be possible in under £1K inc operating system but means you would have to overclock it your self which isn't that difficult on a good cooler.

As others have said, for £1k you should be looking at an i5 or a 1366 socket i7 build not an i3.

The 5770 is a nice card; but I wouldn't choose it for "future games" as the take up of DX11 by the games industry is probably going to be very slow. Buy the 5770 because it's about as quick as the 4890 in current games, uses a lot less power and is cooler running.

Ditch the Deathstar and get a Samsung F3

I bought the professional edition 64 bit for £30 it is the upgrade but you have to install it and not put the key in as it won't validate. After that just install it again and put the key in and it will validate. worked a treat for me on my new build.
