hello there, wanted to upgrade my pc to get more fps on games

CPU: I5 2500k 4.7ghz
GPU: GTX1060 6GB
DDR3 8GB RAM

it's worth upgrading my cpu, motherboard, ram for a newer generation? or i should upgrade my gpu and go for 16GB RAM?

my objective is to get the most fps I can for a 1080p 144hz monitor

That CPU is clocked so high that wouldn't expect notable differences.
Intel has simply been very lazy in IPC advance, with most difference of "new" CPUs having been from stock clocks creeping higher.

Upgrading to a newer i5 8600k or Ryzen R5 will give you a 6 core processor and that will be much more useful in the coming years for gaming. Obviously this will require a new motherboard and new DDR4 memory to go with it and it is not cheap these days.

You will see much bigger gains from changing your graphics card to a 1070Ti or better as suggested above. There is no real value in adding more DDR3 memory unless you come across a good deal for some second hand parts. Inevitably you will need to replace the whole system anyway.

Now is definitely not the time to buy parts. We are days away from the next gen Ryzen cpus and I have no doubt that there will be a few deals to go with them. Hopefully Intel will try to steal some thunder with some tasty price drops ;)

What games do you play?
If it's the most recent AAA titles then upgrade can help, specially if you have a card to drive 144hz fully .
If older games then clock speed , which seems you have

if they plays AC:O doesn;t matter what card he has it'll grind to a halt in crowded areas haha

and then They are Billions.. final wave - max population - seeing CPU handle 40k pathways haha

hopefully can mention their key games
