Hi

Well upgraded quite a few bits in my computer lately and got a little cash together to do some more :)

I have a phenom ii 720be and currently have the stock cooler that comes with it. Ive overclocked it to 3.2ghz on stock volts but would like to make it a little quieter and possibly overclock it a little more so a recommendation on a cooler would be great. Budget upto about £40

Ive been after a new case for quite some time but really dont know where to start as there are so many. Currently have a cheap coolermaster case and something with noise dampening (if cases come with that?) would be good. Budget upto around £100

I have a coolermaster 500w extreme power and although it seems to handle things quite well I might like to go crossfire later by adding another 4890 so something that could handle this without any problems. I have 2 harddrives installed and a dvdrw aswell as the power hungry 4890. Budget upto about £100 again

Any recommendations would be great :)

Thanks Kennysevenfold am loving that case. Seems it is quite quiet and has good cooling from the reviews which is what im looking for :)

Would a 620w psu be enough for a crossfire 4980 setup if I was ever to go down that route?

yeah mate, that would be fine for crossfired 4890's if you come around to it later on down the line :)

Its a fantastic case, used it a few times in the passed :p

I like the sound of watercooling it but dont know much about it and im not going to be doing extreme overclocking. Just something a little more quiet and cooler than I have at the moment will be ok.

I just found a review on youtube and it does look an awsome case. Its definately top of my list at the moment :)

Looks perfect does that Kennysevenfold. Was looking at the exact same one earlier but Ive never actually installed one like that, have always had the ones with fans facing upwards. Is there a certain direction you point the fan to i.e the back of the case?

no problem mate,

got it in one, pop the fan on the side of the cooler that faces the dvd drives, blowing cool air through the cooler out of the back of the case through the rear case fan :)

Just like this mate

Ive just done some testing on my computer and always thought it was the cpu cooler that was making the noise. Its seems its the fan on the psu that gets louder the more load it is put under. So idealy i'm looking for a really quiet psu, would the coolmaster cut it or would it be quite loud being only 620w and having a load put on it?

Well finally got round to installing all my components today and I am mighty impressed, thanks for all your help guys especially Kennysevenfold.

I bought the p182 antec case which I must say is quite a quality product and does dampen out sound a little.

I ended up buying the coolermaster 700w silentpro in the end as it was only a £10 dearer but is still modular. It does seem a lot better as when stressing the pc before my 12v rail was dipping to below 11.5v now its keeping stable at 12.10v. Plus its virtually silent unless you put your ear up to it on which you can hear a tiny whir that is all.

Also bought the sunbeam cooler you recommended and this is the product im most impressed with. My idle temp is now 19 degrees, before it was 28. The load temp is 33 which before it was easily hitting 50+. This is with the phenom 720 overclocked at 3.2 ghz.

Just a couple of questions if you can help. The psu goes in the bottom in the antec case and said in the instuctions that it can be installed either way. Ive installed it with the fan to the bottom is this ok? The sunbeam comes with a fan controller which ive installed and set to about 30% which is virtually silent but keeps the cpu cool enough. Ive turned off auto fan control in the bios, is this the way to do it or should i leave that enabled?

Thanks again

Rob

Glad to hear you happy with everything :)

with the psu question, all builds i do i like to have he fan facing upwards, there ususally isnt enough room at the bottom between the case and psu for good airflow for the psu fan :)

and tbh about the cpu fan, if your finding this works for you, stick to it, the fan control in the bios just turns the fan speed up and down depending in the cpu temp, your way will keep it at a direct constant speed, if you stick to using it this way, just keep an eye on the load temps and you will be fine :p

Thanks mate you've been really helpful :)

Ive actually turned down my fan now to the lowest setting and still it keeps my temps at 18-19 idle and 33 load so am well happy with my setup now. Only problem is i managed to snap a sata connector on my main hdd. Its still working but think that will be my next upgrade aswell as cooling for the 4890 as that is quite loud compared to everything else now.

Could have a go at using this handy tool for your graphics card mate, set/change and modify the graphics card fan speeds (just make sure to keep an eye on the temps of course until your happy with the fanspeed/noise - temp ratio :)

Yeah I took some today being the geek i am lol. But not really sure on how to post them on here. Do I need to put them on photobucket or something?
