I see there are already a lot of threads asking for advice , i dont see one for PSUs tho so figure this is the best spot. I'm a long time casual reader of these forums and first time poster.

Recently upgraded my PC

i7 920 CPU
EX58-UD5 Gigabyte motherboard
6gig of Corsair XM3 ram

My exsisting parts are an ANTEC 900 (1) case a thermaltake 500w PSU , 3 x SATA HDDs and a RADEON 4870 GFX card.

However i am going to recieve a 5850 this week i believe and am wondering if i may run into power issues?

My other question is , if i do need to upgrade my PSU what should i go for ? Ive been looking this week at PSUs and my ideal situation is over the next few months when money allows id like to overclock my pc (which is why i got the chip and board and ram of that spec) and i really want the 800D Corsair case , ive read a lot of reviews of it and it sounds like it works well with watercooling (altho i do read its maybe not the best) but for what i want and my own personal taste its the nicest case i could find.

So with that in mind if im aiming for possible watercooling and in the 800D case which PSU ?

The ones ive looked at are the 850w Modular Corsair , the 850w Modular Antec.

I want a modular PSU if im going to buy one then i want to make sure im not buying something i will replace in a year if i decide to watercool etc.

Ive checked youtube for reviews but the majority seemed to be reviewed by a guy who says every single thing he reviews as "Kickass" so this doesnt really help me.

The TLDR version

I got a i7 920 and Gigabye UD-5 and am getting a 5850 and want to possibly overclock and maybe watercool in the Corsair 800D case , which PSU to get.

My Budget is about 130ish pounds

Thanks in advance.

Hey, youre along the right lines for your future requirements, including the extra power draw for OCing, WCing and possibly a 2nd 5850, 850W would be a good idea. The corsair PSUs are very good so Id go with that one
However for now, your 500W (assuming the ampage is ok) should be able to cope with a single 5850, believe 500W is minimum recommended

Thanks for the quick reply, good to hear that the 500w should be ok for now.

So is there any real difference between the higher end 850w PSUs ?

Assuming they are all modular and around the same price ?

Corsair are generally regarded as one of the best if not THE best, BeQuiets DarkPower range, Antecs Signature range and Zalmans heatpipes are not far behind, the others sold here are still good, just not what I'd term excellent

Thanks for the advice , have the 5850 and is running fine as far as i can tell so for now i wont upgrade and try and save for the corsair i think then.
