Hey guys.

I bought an Elite from somewhere I shouldn't be mention/hinting about/dancing around/balancing on my nose, and after bringing it home i noticed that the seal was not intact on the box.

To my horror, upon opening the box, everything in the packaging had been opened and obviously used :(

Also i noticed that the serial inside the flap was missing

The Elite works but im worried about why everything had been opened, and im hoping they should swap this for a new sealed one without too much hassle

My main concern is proving that it wasnt me that opened it all up.

Anybody had a similar experience,

Serial inside the flap? Not sure what you mean - there's a flap on the box which lifts up to reveal the back of the console - the part with the serial number on the label.

I'd just go in there and explain the situation to them. See what they say then work out where to go from there.

Take it back ASAP.

Anything longer than a day and they'll just blame you :)

Yeah, i probrably couldnt see it then because the console had been packed up back to front :(

Im sending my girlfriend back with it tomorrow as im at work all day ,so i just wanted some feedback if they would try and say i opened it all

no, you should have checked it at the store really..not sure how you could prove it had been opened now.

mine had an extra gay store seal on it.

Having worked in a game ;) shop, I can only tell you based on that (ps2/bb/gc era). The elite has either been opened by whatever reason by the shop itself or is a return from a previous customer.

I doubt it is the first as any reasonable member of staff would make sure everything would be in "as new". Even if a customer had returned it (rare cases), I would make sure it was still was working and repackaged "as new" again. Back in the day PS2s and GCs had no seals but XBs did.

I suppose you have every right to go and tell them about it but you haven't got anything to gain (if everything is fine - no scratches, missing items, etc), as even if it breaks, you can still return it under guarantee. If someone came to me in your situation, I would take the gamble and exchange it for a sealed one, because I am not losing any money and it would be resold (properly packaged). But you would have to wait for me to test the one you were bringing back to ensure you were not conning me. If consoles these days have to be registed before use, then I wouldn't take it back I imagine.

My friend works in a game shop and they had to open all their Elite boxes the other day due to an error from the supplier involving US and UK power connections. Some had them, some didn't.

This is what they checked. IT's possible the store had the same issue.

Thanks guys,

The trouble is, its not just the seal that had been broken, it was every bit of packaging inside the 360

The 360 itself didnt have any plastic covering on the drive bay , or power switch.

If it was just the seal to check something then i wouldnt be too fussed, its just that this is definately a return by the looks of it, and its what it was returned for that worries me

maybe the shop opened it and tried it

i wouldn't worry about, youve got a 3 year 3rlodeath cover

Just ring up mate and they'll just say "bring it back and we'll exchange it"...Remember the customer is always right ;)

I bought GRAW2 from the shop you bought the Elite from, found out that GRAW 1 was in the case! Figured they might think I was talking BS and trying to fob them off but no they just said bring it in and they'll swap for the new one :)

If I had got my 360 home and everything inside had been opened, I wouldn't of even plugged it in, it would have gone straight back, if I buy something new I expect it to be NEW but then im a bit sad when it comes to stuff like this.

This happened when my bro bought a PS3.

Got it home, plugged it in and it wouldn't display anything on screen (only audio).

Took it back and the shop admitted they'd opened it to test it and they'd locked the display on HDMI

1 Phonecall and they agreed to exchange it for a sealed one.

Righto,

Girlfriend took back the 360 this morning after asking on the phone if it was ok to return for a new one,

When she got there they told her that they didnt have anymore in stock to exchange.

Fair enough then, she asked if we could have a refund to purchase else where, but the guy said that we couldnt because we had traded 6 games in at the time of purchase

She argued that she didnt understand what the problem was as what difference would it make if we had just walked in there and traded in the games on their own.

Anyway, they have agreed to swap it when they get more stock, which is fair enough i suppose, We asked why it was sold to us like this and they said that a guy had brought it back in because of 3 red rings and when they tested it it was a loose power cord. (why wasnt i told of this when i bought it)

I dunno, surely they would have tested it when he brought it back and informed him of this anyway

So im not to worried as long as its only a week maybe till they get more stock

Glad you are getting it sorted.

I know I wouldn't want to shell out and get something someone else has unwrapped and played on.

You can understand it from the shops perspective but as a customer you've got every right, and I'd have done just the same.
