Advice on registering an italian .it domain - good idea or not?

Hey all,

I've been bouncing some ideas around with a graphic design friend about registering a domain to display their graphic design portfolio for job applications and to make them available for freelance work.

One idea is using an italian .it domain, so it can be for example 'carlcreates.it'

or something along those lines.

What do you guys think? Any major reasoning to go against this?

Cheers :)

It's too clever for its own good.

On the one hand, that's a localised domain so it won't help his SEO.

On the same hand, people will probably expect carlcreatesit.com.

For local SEO you'd probably be better hosting the site on carlcreatesit.co.uk, then registering carlcreates.it and permanently redirecting (HTTP 301) that domain to the main .co.uk.

And you should have course register likely errors, such as carlcreatesit.com and carlcreates.com/.co.uk...

My old company did this and we found that a lot of spam filters don't like .it because it's not their locale, we regretted ever doing it.

Thanks for the input guys, I think your right and .it's just not right for us.

;)

Will brainstorm some more ideas for a more conventional domain. :)
