Hey all,

I am currently using a 320gb drive split into 3 partitions...

30gb for XP
70gb for Vista
200gb for Storage

I started off dual booting Vista and XP but am now happy just using Vista. What do I need to do to get rid of the XP partition and the dual boot functionality so I can claim the 30gb space back and use it for storage?

Thanks

Russ

Admin Tools -> Comp Management -> Disk Management

Then just delete the partition/volume which has WinXP on it.

Or

Stick in Vista/WinXP CD when booting up pc and delete partition using Windows CD.

Iam in the same situation, vista is running fine for me and ive not booted into xp for months.

When you delete the xp partition what will happen to the drive letters? Ive got xp on C and vista on E.

you cant change the drive letter of any system drive, id advise remove every folder except the bootloader related ones and leave all the files in the root of the partition alone, and (make sure it works first) just make the partition very small.

as mattyrigby says, leave the partition well alone. don't try and format it (windows won't let you anyway). and don't try and mess with the drive letters. you can safely delete these folders to free up some disk space though......

windows
program files
documents and settings

but don't delete any files in the root of the drive otherwise vista won't boot. :)

Sounds like a very awkward way of doing things

eh? the files that vista needs to boot are on the c drive. what i posted is not optional - it's the only way without re-installing vista. the choice is yours. :)
