Advice on replacing a dormer with a skylight

We have a small dormer that doesn't let in much light or offer a good view.

We're thinking of removing it completely and putting in a new wider dormer.

2nd option is to just put in a small skylight next to the existing dormer as there is space.

The goal is to let in more light and have a better view out. Max budget is £15k.

First major housing renovation project so no idea if this is realistic and curious to hear people's thoughts!

I’m going to go with ‘probably not worth it’.

The enlarged dormer will likely need planning permission, it will need full structural calcs, roof off and full rebuild to current regs. That’s not a small job.

Similar to the skylight, retrofit means bringing the structure up to current regs if it is not already. It may involve doubling up the rafters in either side of the proposed location, uprating the insulation and roof modifications.

Thanks! It's a 2016 build so hopefully already up to current regs. Will rule out the bigger dormer, but still thinking about a skylight.

Do you think the boxed sections either side of the dormer could be removed? They're empty storage at the moment. They're plasterboard but I've heard there could be a structural frame there
