hello peeps

need a little advice about installing a sound card.

so, put the card in the appropriate slot on the motherboard, plug the front pannel audio cable into the card (could i get away with not plugging the front pannel cable in at all and just plugging the headset into the back of the card?), install drivers and away you go.

is this correct?

i heard something about having to disable the onboard sound before it would work but im not sure if this is needed or how to do it.

also are there any other cables to connect? such as power cables and what have you.

sorry its abit of a demanding post. thanks in advance.

What card have you ordered exactly? From your description i'm assuming it's an X-Fi?

Anyway, most of your assumptions are correct. It would probably be best to disable the onboard audio in your BIOS before sticking your new card in, but it won't be a disaster if you don't...

There won't be any power cables to connect (unless you've got something like a Xonar HDAV, which requires more power as it can't get enough via the PCI-E bus, but if you have gone for an X-Fi, then no :)
