Im building a new PC for my Dad.

1) he does not play games (But I have built him a what I think is a good PC)
2) I will be clocking the CPU, but would you change any items like the Graphics.

Im trying to keep it a good Spec. Just any advice if any one has some.

My old man uses office and Autocad, that spec would blow him away

Seems a pretty decent spec.

What is he like with noise? that can with fans on medium makes a bit of noise and on full is pretty damn noisy. I also saw a while ag osomeone saying the hitachi drives were noisy (not proven by myself though).

Looks basically fine although I'd change the Ram for a 4gb kit rather than 4x1gb sticks. 700w seems a bit overkill on the PSU front and I don't know anything about the cooler but other than that it should build into a nice PC.

does he need a gts if he isn't playing any games, perhaps a 3870/gt is a bit more suitable for a non-gaming pc but still v. good

Ok I have changed the hard drives, PSU, and case.

What other RAM would you sudjest.

The Corsair 4gb XMS2 kit ought to do equally well although the timings are a little bit slower.

Since this is not for gaming, how about spending a little less on the Graphics Card and getting a faster processor. For example, a OcUK GeForce 9600 GT for £99.86 and an Intel Core2 Duo E8200 (2.66GHz, 1333FSB, 6MB L2 Cache) for £111.61?

That comes to £211.47 for both compared to £225.58 for the one you've got above, so there's actually a 15 quid saving. The graphics card isn't going to affect anything if it's not going to be used for playing games - you just need something that will run aero well, and a 9600 will do that with ease.

Ok I have swapped the 8800 GTS 512 for the OcUK GeForce 9600 GT.

The CPU I was going to give my dad my E4500 in sig, (£50) and upgrade to a faster chip. I do play games . I was going to go for one of the Q9450 but they are expensive. And i heard the E7200 is a good clocker and a cheap upgrade.

But any advice on the CPU let em know.

It shouldn't really matter which Ram kit you pick although for anything with a 1066mhz FSB (and above an 8x or 9x multiplier) then it is probably slightly overkill to get anything more than PC6400 even if overclocking.
