Hello guys and gals,

First post on here I know but I need some help, basically im stuck on specs for a new build basically I want the best gaming system I can build on a budget of between £700 and £1000? have built a few systems before but never one specifically for gaming and have been out of the loop for a while.

Your suggestions on full specs including case would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys and hope you all have a merry christmas:D:D:D

Hello NW_SKINHEAD and welcome to the forums. First of all, make sure you read the FAQ and you won't get banned for doing something you wasn't aware off that is against the rules. :p

Just a couple of quick questions too - Are you just after the base unit or will you be needing a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers?

Are you interested in doing any overclocking for this build?

What sort of resolution will you be gaming at?

Finally, will you need an operating system? :)

Hi there Fire Wizzard and thanks for the response, to answer your questions its just the base unit I am after, have never tried overclocking but it all depends on its cost effectiveness and as for the operating system dont need that. Thanks for your help and advice.

Hi NW_SKINHEAD, overclocking is defiantly worth looking into since it does yield a nice performance boost for free basically. Regarding the operating system - If you are using a 32-bit operating system at the moment then it may well be worth investing in a 64-bit operating system since as well as it being able to handle much larger memory addresses, it is faster, securer and more stable compared to a 32-bit based system. If you are interested in finding out more about this, you can read through a article published on the review website Bit-Tech called 64-bit: More than just the RAM. You may also be interested in reading through a post written by NathanE which can be found here, taken from this thread here.

Weather the advantages of running a fully functional 64-bit system will be prominent to you straight away isn’t really too much of an issue since providing you can fit a 64-bit operating system into a specification and without having to downgrade a couple of other hardware components to fit it into the budget, there really is absolutely no reason not to purchase a 64-bit operating system at this point in time. 64-bit is without a doubt, the future. :p

I'm still not quite sure on the sort of resolution you will be gaming at but I will create a specification for you anyway. Providing you don't game at a resolution lower than say 1680x1050, then you won't really need to change anything in the specification to allow for this. I'm also presuming that you are using a 32-bit operating system at the moment so I have actually included a 64-bit one in the specification.

If you do have any questions about the below specification, feel free to ask. :)
