Advice on speeding up internet connection

ISP is talktalk and I think iam on the basic package with an extra download packaged 80GB.

Now when iam running sabnzbd+ my speed hits around 227.87 KB/s max. Crap I know. Now I normally set my speed to 125.00 KB/s so I can browse the net while downloading. Now as soon as I remove the limited speed that I set (125.00 KB/s) my download speed shoot up to well the highest has been just over 750.00 KB/s! This only lasts for about 1-2 seconds tho. :(

Just wondered if there is anything else I can do to try and speed up my connection?

Iam using a netgear dg834g plugged into the back plate of the master socket and Iam using wifi(speed doesnt improve cabled).

Would be great to increase my speed as atm is pretty poor.
 
Iam living in a new build flat, not my master-socket but mine is exactly the same as this one

Ah right, when I looked at trouble-shooting this before I remember using the talk talk forum and the mods on there saying about various profiles.

Do you know if they can be changed?
