Advice on syncing work data from PC to Laptop

Hello Windows crew,

I have a letter from one of my friends who wants some help getting his office computer set-up all ship shape, one of his requests is for something I don't know much about? . . .

Can you look into this for me, it would be good to plug the laptop
into the desktop every couple of days / weeks and all the office files
be synced from the desk top to the lap top therefore both would be a
copy of each other, obviously the email set up would be the same as my
iPhone whereby I have to delete the email separately on the lap top
desk top and iPhone hope this makes sense give us a call of you need
to,also if you needed to work on the desk top I would simply use the
lap top seems to make sense and eliminate stress

What do you think?

All the desktops and Laptops are running Windows XP Pro so basically looking for some software that compares the data contents of the two computers are updated them accordingly . . .

Also, for email. If you set all your clients to use IMAP then all your email stays synced between devices. If you delete one on one device than it's deleted next time you view emails on another device. Works like this for me!
