Hi

Quick question. I have just recieved a returned motherboard after i sent it off to be fixed/replaced.

What is the least amount of components i can test to see if it posts. i.e. do i need a processor installed and ram?

what is the minimum a system will post on

thanks people!!

It'll do nothing whatsoever without a (working) processor and a power supply. At this point you're hoping for beeps complaining about missing ram/graphics card. Put in a stick of ram, and it should only beep about the card. Put in the graphics card, and it should boot, post and complain that the operating system is missing.

If the board has onboard graphics or is otherwise willing to boot without a graphics card then remove the card from the above. Remember to connect the speaker or you'll be none the wiser. Good luck

thanks for the helpful reply.

if i put in a processor which is dead (im not sure if it is or not) and run the system will it harm the new motherboard?

is there an easy way to tell if the processor is dead?

thanks
