can anyone advise me on the best way to apply thermal paste?

I have Arctic 5 Thermal Paste Ive had in fridge for a few years, iam going to use it on my dads setup if the Gellid Tranquillo doesnt have any already applied, ive used it once before on my laptop where I smeared some very thinly across most of the processor so that pressure from HSF would spread it out... other have told me to put a pea sized dollop in middle and just sit it on, i think it would be best spreading it so you know 100% its covering all the CPU/HSF

can anyone offer up some advice here?

also would i be best removing any already on the HSF and applying the Arctic5?

thanks

a lot of people have their prefered method of application, my personal one is using the pea sized dollop in the centre and letting the heatsink squish it into all the crevices

from what i understand, the older method of using a credit card to make a smooth film of paste is OTT nowadays as TIM has developed so that it can spread nicely and doesnt need so much preperation :)

It's actually more of a petit pois - but that sounds incredibly camp when describing thermal paste application.

Rice size blob usually fits all...

haha i was thinking that myself but that was the description I was given... think i will just spread it myself then at least I know its covering the whole CPU/HSF area
