Hiya, its been quite a while since I last upgraded my stuff and not really up with what's the good stuff and compatibility, so any advice on these 4 upgraded items that I have found would be greatly appreciated thanks.
I mainly will be using for 6 boxing my MMO game and 3d programs zbrush/3ds max.

Intel i7 920 , CPU.
Geforce gtx 680 EVGA superclocked , graphics card.

new proposed stuff for advice on please:-
Motherboard , Rampage V Extreme USB 3.1 Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 EATX Motherboard ,
CPU , Core i7-3960X 3.30GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - OEM ,
Memory , Vengeance LPX 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit - Black (CMK64GX ,

The CPU you have selected is X79 not X99 so you'd need either a newer CPU or an older motherboard. Plus X79 does not support DDR4 RAM so you'd need to get some DDR3 RAM instead as well.

As mentioned above, you've chosen an X99 motherboard [2011-v3] but an X79 [2011] CPU.

You need a 2011-v3 CPU which will be any Haswell-E or Broadwell-E CPU (For example the i7 5820k, 5930k, 5960X which are Haswell-E or Broadwell which are i7 6800K, 6850K...etc)

thanks for your reply but I don't see where it says X79 in the advert for the cpu, I have even looked at a newer CPU and still don't see where it says x79 or x99.. how can I tell please?

thanks

It should say on reasonable websites what the required chipset is for each CPU. That CPU you linked is ancient anyway. It came out in 2011. So, yeah, it is pretty old. The newer Haswell-E and Broadwell-E CPUs are all X99 and are probably a better buy at this point in time.

They usually list CPUs by socket type, not chipset.

See where it says "socket LGA2011-v3" in the product title? You'll want this to match on your chosen board, which are more often than not listed with both socket type and chipset.

Judging by age of your current system, I'd highly recommend splashing out on a new PSU too.

The newer Haswell-E and Broadwell-E CPUs are all X99 and are definitely a better buy at this point in time.

fixed :)

You look at the socket. Socket 2011 is X79 with DDR3. Socket 2011v3 (current high end) is X99 with DDR4. Look here to see what cpu's can be used on which socket. This took me all of 20 seconds to find on google.

So taking everything on board what you have all said and many thanks BTW, here is new list:-

It will all work together and dick all over your existing system.

Someone mentioned above about a new PSU as well, I cannot stress this enough. Add one in with your build. If you plan to go single graphics card, a good gold 600 watt PSU will be fine. If you plan to go more than one, start looking at 850+

You add the stuff to the basket and click on view basket. At the bottom you will see "BBCode". Click on that and you get a wall of text come up. Copy the text and paste it into a post and you get the basket with pictures that people can see.

What make and model psu do you have? Are you going to be overclocking? Do you need a cooler?

Also look at the new m.2 drives. Your new motherboard would support it and it's faster than any SSD you have.

Not heard about these I'll have to have a look as I do have SSD one. Many thanks

Thanks for the info in the pics, much appreciated. As on the PSU its a enermax one but forgot exactly what type and power, it's was a massively overpowered one when I got it originally, I'll have to find out for sure.

Just found out the PSU. My old one was an enermax 600w and I swapped it for a new thermaltake toughpower cable management 1200w a few years back, So should be ok.

Them new HD's look good though. KINGSTON HYPERX PREDATOR 480GB PCIE X 4 SSD 2280 FORM FACTOR SOLID STATE DRIVE (SHPM2280P2/480G)

Thanks

I would take one of the Samsung M.2 SSD's over the Kingston. Either the 950 Pro or SM961.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £568.68
(includes shipping: £8.70)

While the M2 drives are quicker are they actually noticeably quicker in day to day tasks to warrant the price premium? A normal SSD is already fast and allows boot up to take seconds, programs to load almost instantly. Is it worth paying even more money for something that may or may not be an improvement in day to day tasks?

OP, as I asked before, do you have a cooler because I am pretty sure that the cpu doesn't come with one?

ahhh sorry I missed that question, and I have totally forgot about a cooler for the CPU. Ill have a look for one, unless you can recommend a good one probably a fan one I have never used water so reckon ill stay with traditional fan.

many thanks

On first glance this looks ok Cooler Master V8 Version 2.0 Triple Tower High Performance CPU Cooler, I have even seen the "LGA 2011-3" which is for x99 chips lol, see I have learnt something hehehehe

thanks :)
