AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4800CDBOX) (CP-129-AM)

or

AMD Opteron UP 175 Dual Core San Diego 2.2GHz 2MB Cache (Socket 939) - Retail (CP-153-AM)

basically other option is a 256mb x1800xt or the 512mb 7800gt

Well if not overclocking the faster cpu at stock would be the better choice.

This being the 4800 running at 2.4ghz over the 175 running at 2.2ghz.
Both have the same ammount of cache.

However You say you will not be overclocking but quite frankly the 170 whatever stepping you get will almost definitely do 2.4ghz on stock vcore.

This way you could poor the money you save all 160 odd quid of it towards a 1900 xt!

If not overclocking go for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ (Socket 939).
Definitely go for the faster 256MB X1800XT instead of the 512MB 7800GT.
