Advice on treadmill that folds flat

Hi there.

My wife has asked me to get her a treadmill to improve her fitness - not training for a marathon or anything like that.

Due to confidence/children/work she can only exercise at home.

Due to space, we can only consider one that folds completely flat so we can slide it under the sofa or a bed.

Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated.

Have see some that do not come with any handles but am not sure whether they are a bit dangerous.

TIA

We had a cross trainer, many years ago, and that ended up for drying sheets.

I am hoping that a treadmill will get a bit more use this time.

Especially if she already has a bike, get a turbo trainer. Much less of an impact exercise on the knees, plenty of apps out there for smart turbos, which can be as little as free eg. the newish "MyWhoosh" app.

I love the idea of of turbo trainers but I suspect that the only machine that is going to get any use is going to be a treadmill - if I had the room, I would definitely look into getting one.

Speaking from experience, flat folding treadmills tend to be crap. For a decent treadmill you're looking at £500+.
Am definitely expecting a compromise. I used to be a regular gym bunny and so the only experience I have with treadmills are the massively expensive ones that have all frills.

However, we are only looking for something that will be used whilst watching TV in the evenings or perhaps during a lunch break.

Would definitely be prepared, however, to spend a bit more for something that does the job.

The problem, as always these days, is that there are so many clones these days and it is impossible to try and work out what is worth getting.

I was also thinking of perhaps considering the used route - on the premise that most people buy these things and then only use them for a few months. Could be an expensive mistake, however, if I am not careful.

Just looked at the one we used to have, I was quite impressed with it, and it's dropped considerably in price. It'll run really fast, auto incline with loads of settings and it's pretty sturdy too.

That should slot behind the sofa nicely :D

I have one in the garage that folds basically flat (minus the handles), but you do compromise quite a lot. It only goes to 10kph, if you're running hard the belt can stick for a nanosecond which can really throw you off, but it does the job for a cheap treadmill - didn't cost much either.

It's called a Salus Sports X-Lite.

Does it need to fold horizontally, or would a vertical suffice? If so, consider the Reebok iRun 3. Bought mine for £399 a few months ago with more than enough features for your usage, very sturdy. It won't fit under a sofa, has a bit of weight to it and I wouldn't recommend needing to move it frequently (although it can be wheeled easily enough). However, if you have a spare corner/wall it could stand, it's not that obtrusive and folds fully vertical. Here it is for context:

Thanks guys - this has all been really helpful.

Had bit of a chat with the other half and we concluded that if we really want something half decent, we really do need to accept a treadmill that will at least store vertically (and spend a bit more).

The Reebok, mentioned above, looks really very good and a bit more research:

This website suggests that this one offers a few more features for a similar price

I found that my local Decathlon sells these so I can even try one out.
