Here is my current system:

  • Xigmatek Pantheon Mid Tower Case - Black
  • Corsair Hydro H60 V2 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Inno3D GeForce GTX 970 OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
  • Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gbs Basic
  • Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)
  • Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
  • GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

I am really not happy with the motherboard, the USB ports are incredibly dodgy, my USB headset often disconnects or reports error with the USB connection (doesn't matter which USB port I use)

I also think the CPU is where my bottleneck is, I don't think I am getting maximum use out of the gtx970.

Is the memory I have now pretty useless? If I wanted to upgrade Motherboard and CPU it would most likely be DDR4 RAM now?

Any recommendations for bundles on OCUK? Max budget would probably be £200-300

Is mobo under warranty? Have you tried reinstalling drivers?

No your CPU isn't a bottleneck, you could even OC it to get more performance if you haven't already.

That's the problem, tried overclocking a while back but the system goes mental. Even the smallest attempt at an overclock just kills the machine.

I've had nothing but bad luck with gigabyte boards :( It was purchased September 2012.

Memory is fine you could try and get a second hand board but prices seem to be crazy unless you get one in the mm market.

Otherwise 4690k and new board.

What do you fancy ?

Yea having a quick look on OCUK they only seem to have that socket of board for Micro PC setups.

Good idea about the members market, if I can snag a decent 2nd hand motherboard I would be up for that and then hopefully can look to overclock the CPU, considering my cooler is more than good enough.

It's a shame but I have been stung 3 times now on gigabyte boards, they are always so highly recommended too :(
