Hi all,
Long time lurker here, who'd appreciate any thoughts on which direction to take for a monitor/graphics card upgrade.
On the assumption that GM200 is at least 12 months away, I've decided against 4k for now.
Overall, I'd rather play it safe. If the informed view is that 1440p TN is the mature tech and SLI 970s will run it perfectly, whereas super-wide still has issues and SLI 980s might still not be enough (e.g. certain console ports with unreasonable vram demands), then I'll go with the ROG Swift. But I'm tempted by the 34UC97 so that's why I'm looking for input from you knowledgeable folks
Thanks in advance for your help
Long time lurker here, who'd appreciate any thoughts on which direction to take for a monitor/graphics card upgrade.
On the assumption that GM200 is at least 12 months away, I've decided against 4k for now.
- Monitor: So, in terms of monitors it's between the ROG Swift and LG's super-wide 34'' screen (34UC97).
- GFX: I'm looking at SLI 970s or SLI 980s to power this setup. (Reference designs on the assumption that this is best for SLI on air.)
- What I'm using it for: This is a gaming pc only. I mainly play MMOs, RPGs, ARPGs, 3rd person action and strategy (think Civ) games. No FPS and no sport/racing.
- What I expect: I put every in-game setting on max. Not being able to do that (whether it makes a visible difference or not) causes me great mental anguish. I don't need insane framerates (40-50 is fine), but I really want to avoid stutter or big fps drops.
