hi guys, i need some advice. in 2009 i bought *OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.20GHz Max / Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle from ocuk. i have currently got a 7950 and want to get some more gaming performance out of it. am i best to get more ram? thanks in advance

haha yeah at the time it was the most expensive overclocked bundle ocuk did and it was my first major upgrade in like six years.

really what im looking for is to gain some more fps with gaming. is the ram going to do that in your opinion? I don't really want to upgrade all the cpu/mb/ram.

Unless your PC is absolutely loaded with junk, I don't think you're going to get any benefit from adding ram. Load a game up up and check your usage.

I bought a OCuk Titan back in 2009. I7 920 but a Gigabyte EX58 board.
Just replaced the 3x2 Oz gold 6GB with 3x4 Corsair Vengeance 12GB.
On my settings at stock overclock:
Metro 2033 went from 20 to 25
Heaven from 34 to 35, and
Valley from 51 to 52.
So it can make a positive improvement.
Overclocking makes a bigger improvement.

thanks for the replies. i've decided to double up the ram with an extra 3x2gb dimms of exctly the same ram. theres a review from someone on here who did this with an o/c bundle (although a different asus mb) and they didnt seem to have any issues. fingers crossed! i'll let you know what happens

You aren't likely to see much an improvement.

And adding another 3 DIMMS on top of what you already have may cause issues with your current overclock.
