Advice on upgrading

Hellooo,

My system is a bit dated now and i'm looking to upgrade. But i'm wondering if it would be better/easier to just upgrade a few of my existing components or just to buy a whole new computer.

I'm unsure on specifics at the moment as i'm at work, but my my current spec is;
AMD Athlon 64bit 4400+ x2
ASUS A8N SLi-Delux mobo
GeForce 7800 GTX
2gb Corsair RAM
Audigy X-Fi sound card of some sort :/

Now I love my current black Tsunami Dream case, so would prefer to just upgrade the components. Will I have to upgrade a lot in order to have a more modern system?

I've been out of the scene for years now, but back when I used to follow tech news, prices of components were dropping massively. I don't know if thats still the case? Can you still buy a cheap processer thats better than mine above? And I take it that when buying a modern processor I will need to get a new mobo + ram?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you,

Hennreh

the lot will have to go unfortunately, luckily that socket939 stuff will sell for surprisingly good money on fleebay, so the upgrade coat will be easier to swallow.

what is the make and model of your psu.

do you need a copy of windows.

and is there a budget.

you have a DVD drive as well.

and what's this pc used for.

my only concern is your psu, yes it has a 550w sticker on the side, but has been shown before on many review sites, cheap psu's rarely give out their rated power.

so add something like this- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098

the difference in speed, at every task between this spec and your current pc is going to be a major shock.

That looks great mate thanks :)

I remember looking at some of that stuff when it came out. Can't beleive its only £381 for a spec like that nowadays! :O

Okay - i'll look at upgrading the PSU also then I suppose just to be safe. I've had some problems with my current pc recently that I think the PSU might be causing anyway.

Thanks again stulid really appreciate it :)
