Hiya,
First off, my current spec might be in order :)
Athalon 64 3200+ (Stock cooling)
MSI RS480IL Motherboard
Nvidia GF6600LE 512mb
1gb Crucial RAM
Sony DVD drive
Aopen Dual-Layer burner
Maxtor Diamondmax 10 200gb HDD (SATA)
Cheap & nasty Kobian case+ generic 350w PSU.

I'm planning to add another 200GB HDD, more RAM and a multi-card reader to this machine, and I just have the feeling that this'll overload the PSU just a little ;)
What I want is a quiet PSU, with decent cooling properties (The current one keeps the case temps at a decent level, processor in the mid-30's, with no case fans), but is relatively noisy. Modular cables would be nice, but cheap(er) would also be good, as I'm not planning to really OC this machine at all. Edit: Could I just add, a kettle-type out lead for my monitor would be good too, terminally short of plugs
Secondly, could someone please reccomend a multi-card reader? I want to fit it in the FDD bay, and need SD, MMC & CF card slots. A firewire port on it would also be very useful, but not essential.
Final point- Any thoughts on a second HDD please? The noise isn't so important with this, the Maxtor is going to be the primary drive, with this one more for additional storage space than anything else :p I'm also pretty tempted to go IDE as its cheaper, but still!

Cheers guys

HDD - Spinpoints are a good choice.

PSU - well from memory PSU's pull air out of the case not push it in so can't see how one can have decent cooling properties... that's more a function of case fans... anyhow on the modular, quiet side the Tagan's - I use a 430W modular - are very good (for the record my PC is currently sitting at MB temp 31 degrees, CPU 57 degress - with a game running that's pushing 1 core to 100%).

Use a spinpoint myself, very quiet, good drive. As for a power supply look at Antec,Tagan,Hiper, seasonic(very quiet) Enermax or OCZ you can't go wrong with any of these,i would get something over 400w ;)

Cheers for those replys :)
My current thought is to get the Tagan TG380-U01 380W ATX2.0 Silent PSU (CA-001-TG) but I'm not entirely certain if 380w would be enough, but as long as it shuts up the PC! (Anyone with experience?)
Can anyone post the acceptable levels of deviation for the different power rails please- I want to see how mine is currently doing, considering I do have less fans that might be considered usual

As far as I can gather Enermax and Seasonic are the best choices for psu. I have the seasonic and it is nice and quiet.

I had a noisetaker & did'nt consider it to be that quiet, great solid psu though.Go seasonic if you want stability & silence ;) Also i am running a hiper modular & its a very good psu :)

ive used both of those tagans currently using 480.The 380 would be power enough, but if youre going to expand system in the future, a higher spec one might be needed. Also Tagan is an excellent brand, well built, sooo quiet.the 380 is quieter than my 480.
The hiper have volt issues on 12volt rail

Samsung spinpoints as your primary drive.much better than a maxtor as it is almost silent.

Just to let you guys know, I had to go 'elsewhere' as this needed to be delivered to Uni
I've gone for a Hiper 480w Type R & a Segate 200gb (The warranty made me :p )

Many thanks for your input.
