Advice on voltage

Hi,

I think I've made a mistake and ordered OC system from competition, regretting it already.
Few things that seem wrong to me. Can someone please tell me if I am wrong:
asus maximus VI hero with corasair H100i and [email protected]
voltage set to 1.265V which I would expect to be lower with that clock speed. I cannot change it and see if that would make it unstable as that would void warranty, but any opinions if that is something to worry?
GPU is also overclocked and again seems a bit too much increase in voltage for almost no speed gain.
Also with all slots empty would you put sound card next to GPU giving fans about 3mm space for breathing?

Opinions appreciated.

I would not put the soundcard so close if I had the choice.

The volts seem fine though, CPU's are all different, so you cannot really say if something is too little or too much for something. Maybe they could be tuned down with an increase in Vring, maybe not.. Depends how good the person OC'ing it is.

Maybe it's just been done with a ready template where the volts are just pre-applied on the high side.

From what I have found on internet "Last modified" tab in BIOS keeps history of changes, not just the last one, which means OCing was done by template s there is only one set of changes : /

Thanks for your reply.

Well, to be honest I made the same mistake as you did, I bought an OC for my build up to 4.2ghz, and that was done with a template as well (1.25V for 4.2ghz). Temps were pretty high, so I just tuned the OC myself and voided the warranty on the OC. Bear in mind it does not affect the individual warranty of each part.

After my tuning, I had 4.4ghz on 1.2v instead of 4.2ghz on 1.25.. dropped the temps considerably too, by tuning other voltages but leaving Vcore at 1.2 :)

Later on I bought a H100i on offer and now I'm sitting on 4.6ghz. I lost the money I paid for the OC, but we live and learn. My next PC will be a self-build totally, I am totally happy with OCuk build skills, but I just feel like I would have wanted to do it myself.

I'm not saying you should void your OC warranty, especially if you don't really "need" more GHZ than you already have.. but it's always an option :)

(Actually I still got the OCuk template saved in my Bios, so maybe my OC warranty is still there.. I don't know, I don't need it anymore.)

I had a quick phone chat with tech support and they admit it is done by template and they don't try to tune it.

I have one argument against building system myself - faulty parts. My first self build PC was my last ;-p Had faulty PSU and faulty mother board. First was waiting for PSU replacement to then find out motherboard was also faulty. After that I decided building my own PC was not as fun as I thought ;-)

My last OC system was from Overclockers and it was perfect, everything was as I would like it to be done. Guess I have my lesson to not try to save couple hundred quid on something I will keep for few years.

I am not going to void warranty, I have time till Thursday to decide if I want to return it for full refund.
