got about 100-180 ish to spend on graphics. games machine BF2 etc.

am looking at:

CPU : 3700+ amd 64
Mobo : gigabyte nforce4 ultra pci-e
HDD : wd s300 16mb cache
Ram : 1 gig corsair ram... should I make this 2 gig?

advice appreciated, feel free to give advice on improvements but I need to stay fairly low budget this time, this is my introduction back to fps so if I enjoy it again I go into much better machine looking at total cash around £600-700 maybe

In PCI-E form for your budget you should be looking at either an X850XT or 6800gs as already mentioned. If you can stretch to ~£200(maybe with the money saved by getting an Opteron) then go for a 7800gt which is far better than both.

IMO go with 2GB if you can really push.. BF2 needs that extra RAM, and also it will help you out with more recently released titles too :)

yeh it is better overclocker

but 3700 has good cache.. and can overclock pretty well... you'll get 2.8ghz maybe 2.9ghz with it (depending on situation), thats more than good.

fair enough opteron is better than 3700, but not by a whole load.

id personally wait and change to dual core.

not a 100% chance of you getting a good clocker is it though?

OP, do you already have that rig or do you intend to buy it?

Same goes for the 3700+, and any opty should do 2.5-2.6ghz no problem unless you are very, very unlucky.

So yeah, opty + 7800GT gets my vote too
