Hi everyone,

First of all, sorry for the length of the post but I need to give a bit of background info before turning to the OC community for some advice:

Back in October 2008, being a keen young man with disposable income, I decided to build my own computer (relying heavily on whatever info I could find on OC).

I'm no expert by any mean but being in the engineering trade, I thought "how hard can it be?".

I have to admit I was a bit overwhelmed at first when all the components arrived separately, but the build went actually very smoothly and I am glad to say that within half a day of assembly, I was finally able to install the OS and stand speechless in front of the glowing screen, with a stupid grin on my face.

Fast forward 5 and a bit years later and here am I writing this post trying to get your opinion on what you would do in my situation. I would like to sell this computer but I have no idea what (if anything) it's worth and I'm afraid my judgement is being clouded by the fact that this is my first (and so far only) build.

I'm sure many of you have found yourself in this situation before so I wanted to know what how you dealt with it, if you sold it whole, piece by piece, scrapped it entirely?

Now I am entirely aware that the following specs are old, but back in the day, boy wasn't it the ****! And to this day, I have been able to play all but the most demanding games very comfortably (including the Witcher 2 at max details). There might be a little problem with the GFX card though, but I wouldn't expect any sensible buyer to stick with the same GFX card anyway. Any honest opinion and/or valuation is welcome.

Here are the specs:

Processor: Intel Q9550 Core 2 Quad Proccessor - 2.83 GHz,12MB L2 Cache,1333MHz FSB

Thank you very much for taking your precious time to read my post.

I hope you can be of any help.

Oh... just read the rules (should have done that before really)... 1000 posts?! Wow... I guess I'll never get rid of it then...

So... I'm not trying to bypass any rules so I'll forget about the valuation. But would discussing what one would do in my situation (omitting any prices) constitute a violation of the forum rules?

Well put it this way the depreciation of pc components is crazy. You'd be best trying to sell as whole tbh, but don't expect to recover anywhere near what you paid.
