Ho there, I was sent over to these forums by a fried who said this would be the best place to et some advice.

I'm looking to get some of the Yate Loons to replace the existing fans in my case but I can't decide on whoch model. The D12SL, D12SM or D12SH.

Any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

The D12SL is probably the most commonly used; the other two generally require under-volting to be as quiet as someone buying them would want.

The SM is more powerful and shifts more air than the SL but is also noisier. The SL is a great balance between noise and airflow. They are damn near silent too if you 7v mod them.

Think of the L,M,H as Low, Medium and High.

Never used all of them but I do know that a M rated fan run at 10.5 volts is quiet, run at 12v you can hear it but need to be within a metre but this all depends on your case and what obstructions you have which may add to the noise.

I'm loaded out with D12SL and hooked them up to a Zalman MFC. The air is louder than the fan when turning them down to about 7v.

How do these compare to the Sharkoon 2000's? Got a case full of them at the moment, very happy with them, but need an extra 2 fans and they're out of stock + these are much cheaper. Noisier, or about the same?

Also, are they actually 3 pin like it says, or 4 pin like it used to say (and most other websites say). I wanna put it on my fan controller that uses 3 pins, tha'ssalllllll

I should add to my comments above that the fans I tested were ball bearing and sleeve, no ideas how noisy sleeve bearing yate loon fans would be.

I’ve found at 7 volts the D12SM-12 (sleeve type) fans are quieter than D12BM-12 (BB type), generally the Sleeve ones are quieter at lower speeds, also cheaper to.

what are the SH-12s like at 7v?

I'm looking to replace the fan on my HSF which is currently this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-001-NC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4

as well as a 120mm case fan, which is currently a sunon 120mm (from about 4-5 years ago), which makes a really annoying ticking noise at 7v.

So, noise wise, if I'm running everything at 7v, will the SH-12 be silent enough?.. bearing in mind I've got a raptor anyway ;)

A D12SH will run at around 900rpm at 5v and 1300 at 7volts, so at 7 volts it will run pretty much identically to a D12SL at 12v.

I have some D12SL-12 Orange fans coming tomorrow.

Glad I came accross this thread as I am out of connectors for my Zalman Fan Controller so might have to do some 7v modding.

Cheers guys :)
