advice please - cheap 15"/17" TFT needed

Lo all,

My bro-in-law has just moved into his own place and his big 20" crt is too big for the flat, he is now after a TFT. He needs something to tide him over until Xmas time so doesnt want anything amazing, just something cheap but good.

Main use will be games, 15-17" and as cheap as chips please

What is important when buying a TFT?

Any recommendations?

the sticky covers a lot of FAQ about first time buying. Also all the specs are explained here which should help. If you're really on a budget then just have a shop round and see what you can find for a reasonable price. Try and stick to well known brands if possible as it should at least ensure some half decent build quality and support. I would advise looking for a 17" as the resolution difference is really worth it over a 15". You'd probably be hard pressed to find many 17" screens anyway nowadays!

One good point about 15" is that you get 1024x768. I've some old games which don't like 1280x1024 because of the 5:4 ratio. I use a 15" at work along side a 17". For desktop use the 15" feels a bit small.
