Hi people.

I recently sold 2 perfectly working cards a Msi 2080 Ti and a msi 2080 on the bay.

Turns out one of the forum member snagged the 2080 and that works perfectly.

however the person who bought the 2080 ti says it’s not displaying on his newly built system. I suspect he’s new to this all and missed something. Any ideas?

I think it’s his first pc build as well. I do know a damaged cpu or bad ram can also stop a nn booting up

Could be a variety of things, don't jump to the point of the card being dead especially if its a new build as you've specified.

Could be anything from a bad or incompatible display cable to a config setting in the bios.

If possible i would ask them to try the card in a different machine first to rule that out and from there can diagnosis the issue they're having.

Is the user competent enough to run through systematic steps in problem diagnosis?

I am trying to help them and I think with the right help they should be able to try troubleshooting.

this is one of the reasons I normally sell on ocuk as the ppl are normally experienced etc.

I know the card was 100 percent when I posted it.

I know I had a similar issues when I bent some Ryzen 1700 cpu pins and that stopped a pc from booting. I had to get a ruler and tweezers and bend them all straight.

ive even had a damaged ram stick stop a pc booting

It sounds like he’s only plugged 2 8 pins into the trio so have asked him to plug the third 8 pin in and to reset the cmos.

he’s confirmed this is his first ever pc build as he’s used a mac before.

I will also ask him to check the dp cable is inserted in tight both end

Well that would be it! I'm sure all of the 8 pins need to be plugged in for the card to even work?

It’s 2 x 8 pin and 1 x 6 pin on that model I just had a check online for that spec and have told him. So total 24

This reminds me of when I sold a gpu to a local person. He claimed it never posted and then I had to drive to their house and troubleshoot and reset the bios and then install the drivers for them.

he’s confirmed it’s now posting with all the power pins now plugged in. He assumed just 8 was needed.

many thanks Jay85
