Went to upgrade my current 2GB setup with a couple more sticks to go 4GB, seems my motherboard refuses to boot with all 4 sticks installed so i have a bit of a dilemma.

Question...

Should i stick with what im running now 3GB Single channel(see sig) or take out the 3rd stick and go back to dual channel 2GB.

From what i can tell im losing a fair bit of memory bandwidth using the single channel setup over the dual but im gaining the extra ram for the system to use.

General gaming i have noticed quicker run and exit times and less hd use in game with 3GB, just the fact i know im hurting my system not giving it the dual channel just keeps bugging me :(

Thanks

Why not run a couple of benchmarks with 2GB and 3GB.

Usually the board will boot with 4 sticks, just windows won't see it all.

You may need to back of the memory timing or frequency to use all 4 sticks.

Ive tried everything, even RMA'd the new sticks to have them sent back with a clean bill of health (thanks OcUK..Awesome service i must say)

No remap option, nothing i have tried works with 4 sticks. Must be a compatability problem i guess :(

If i can get fraps to work on vista x64 i might run some numbers this w/e to see if i am losing anyhting not using dual channel

Thanks for the help tho :)

You may need to raise the NBv to be stable with 4 DIMMs. Try raising it 1 or 2 notches above stock with 2 DIMMs. Then, power off, install the other 2 DIMM, and see what happens. Also, can you give me ALL the information from the stickers on the RAM.

NBv is where and what?

Ive raised the Dimm voltages to 2.3v and at stock speeds, even 5-5-5-18 and still no boot :(

Sticker info is as follows

CM2X1024-6400C4D
XMS-6400 1024MB 800MHz 4-4-4-12 XMS6404v2.1

Im currently running 2GB in dual channel on the newly bought sticks.

All 4 sticks have the same numbers just separated by serial numbers of the pairs. Thanks for the help it be awesome if i could get this running.

I don't have that board in front of me so you'll need to check your manual to see how and where to increase the voltage to the North Bridge, aka MCH aka Memory Controller Hub. And, you may want to back off that 2.3v Vdimm. That is over the warrantied voltage. Also, the ICs used in your memory have on-die voltage regulation so any voltage over 2.1v is mostly converted to heat anyway.

Ok, checked the BIOS and the MCH is there, i raised it to 1.625v and no change

How far can i go without doing any damage?

Ok i bit the bullet and raised the MCH to the mobo's max of 1.7v, sadly still no post :(

I am able to raise the FSB voltage but not sure if that will actually do anything?
