Advice please - temp problem?

Hi Folks,

Could you advice me on the following please.

My computer keeps giving out one short beep (not loud like when the system boot up) occasionally (sometimes often) but not continuous or repeating. It repeats but the interval between each beep is few minutes (sometimes less than 2 mins) apart so I am not sure what is the problem since the Award Bios beep code does not explain them clearly.

So I am trying to narrow down (or eliminate) the problem one by one as I fear the beep could relate to high temperature or whatever that may be ...

As this is my work PC I have only used it for Microsoft Office and webs surfing since I am not a game player yet. Purely for work at the moment.

This is my PC (first build):

1) Windows 7 64bits Home Premium
2) CPU - Intel i5 750.
3) Mobo - Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 mATX. (Award Bios version 1.1.)
4) RAM - 4GB.
5) HDDs - Intel SSD 80GB & Samsung F3 1TB.
6) Case - Lian-Li V351R.
7) Cooling - Corsair H50 water cool.
8) Graphic - GeFore GT240 512mb.

Question:

1) What is the acceptable temperature for my system (Intel i5 750)?

The reading from CoreTemp is as followed:

Tj.Max 99C
CPU
Core #0 25c (low 24c) (high 35C) (Load 0)
Core #1 25c (low 24c) (high 30C) (Load 0)
Core #2 25c (low 24c) (high 32C) (Load 3)
Core #3 25c (low 24c) (high 38C) (Load 0)

2) Is my Tj. Max temp too high? (no games. Just web surfing & Microsoft Office only)

Tj.Max 99C
Core #0 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 63c) (Load 0)
Core #1 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 63c) (Load 0)
Core #2 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 63c) (Load 3)
Core #3 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 64c) (Load 0)

I read the CoreTemp FAQ which indicates that it must be at least 20C below the Tj.Max, so I am a bit concern since I hardly used the computer at all and it is already reaching 75c

3) Any other suggestion?

Please advice.

Thanks

Occhew:confused:

p/s: I am not sure if I have posted this thread in the right section ...

Tj.Max 99C
CPU
Core #0 25c (low 24c) (high 35C) (Load 0)
Core #1 25c (low 24c) (high 30C) (Load 0)
Core #2 25c (low 24c) (high 32C) (Load 3)
Core #3 25c (low 24c) (high 38C) (Load 0)

The above stats are saying your highest temp is 38c

Tj.Max 99C
Core #0 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 63c) (Load 0)
Core #1 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 63c) (Load 0)
Core #2 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 63c) (Load 3)
Core #3 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75c) (High 64c) (Load 0)

These stats are saying your 64c away from the tj.max which is 99c. So imo your temps are fine.

TJ.max is the point where your computer shuts down to protect the cpu getting damaged. Your over 30c away from that.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds reassuring as I knew 38C should be fine but not sure about the other TjMax.

So the key word is "away" from the Tj.Max.

Am I right in reading actual temp as 35c (99c minus 64c)? So basically plenty to go? i.e. I have 64C to "burn" before it reaches 99c shut down point.

So I am away by 64c is that correct from shutting down? (I think I panic when I thought my TjMax was so high)

:)

Run prime or Intel Burn Test to check the full load for a hour.

Yes, I will try the stress test.

Prime95 is a bit complicated to set up then Intel Burn Test.

Have downloaded Intel Burn Test so will read instruction before trying it.

Cheers

Yeah the actual temp is 35c, 64c away from the shut down temp. You will notice it goes up a lot when you use intel burn test.

Update.

Just tested Intel Burn Test with success.

I tried the Standard Test which only lasted about 1 minute plus and the result indicated CPU stability.

However, during my Standard Test it showed Available RAM as 2851 (max was 3063) only but I have 4GB RAM on my system.

Oh ya ... during the test the CPU reached 100% but the RAM only reach 47% max ...

Any idea?

p/s: update with CoreTemp monitoring the temp and it reached 50C max in the Standard Test.

Im not too sure about intel burn test (Im just learning all this too) I think maybe it only shows 3063 because the other 1000 is running the operating system, hopefully someone else can let you know. But if it passes on very high you should be ok.
Also 50c is well within the temp range so I dont think you have anything to worry about there.

Yes, I hope someone will explain that for us in order to better understand the RAM usage in the test.

I only tested on Standard setting for 5 mins but the test only lasted 1 min plus ... :)

Note: the occasional Bios beep still happens and this is really puzzling for me.

You might wanna google Award Bios beep codes and see if you can find anything. I just found this..

1 Short Beep
A single, short beep from an Award based BIOS is actually an "all systems clear" notification

But again you might want to wait for someone with more experience to be sure.

I have searched the webs for hours on Award Bios beep codes to no avail as none described the beep code I am hearing ... weird.

It does not sound like the one short loud booting up beep but rather a soft one ... hhmmm ... I wonder if other users encounter such beep on their system.

Does your system beep? I mean not booting up beep.
