Hey all after a bit of advice on what others would do im not tech savvy. the issue is not sure the best solution. We currently have a samsung H6400 40" in our bedroom and a HTPC so we watch films exc what we download. And down stairs in our living room we have another Samsung H6400. Now on the tv downstairs we want to have kodi and play films what are on our HTPC in our bedroom i was thinking of getting a NUC. But maybe that be overkill for our needs the films we have are 1080p mkv's and HD audio. What would otherts do with the set up i have. The mrs has a laptop and the HTPC is mine so browsing and downloading isn't a problem. This is why i think a NUC for the tv downstairs maybe overkill

First thought was an Amazon Fire TV. You can load Kodi on to that, but Android doesn't support HD audio. If you don't mind using Dolby Digital or DTS instead, then it would be a good inexpensive solution.

If you do want to make use of the HD audio streams, then Raspberry Pi 2 using Openelec supports HD audio pass through, AFAIK.

Not sure if there are any other media players that support HD audio pass through.

I have a PRi2 and it has problems decoding various audio, mainly HD DTS without an amp. There maybe a work around for this but I've researched a lot about the problem and it is inherent for the raspberry pi audio currently.

However if your TV supports the audio decoding the pi cant handle go for it. Or if you have an amp running the sound from the pi to the amp would solve any issues.
