Hi getting a new motherboard on tuesday upgrading from a asus P5w to a EVGA nForce 680i SLi.

as I have never done this B4 I was hoping you guys could answer a few ?`s.

1. Do I need to re-install Vista when installing a new motherboard ?

2. I take it it would be best to uninstall all old motherboard drivers B4 putting the new board in ?

3. how hard is it to install a motherboard ?

4. is there a certain method you find best for fitting a new board ?

5 Am I right in thinking that a EVGA nForce 680i SLi isnt meant for Intel Quad cores ?

6. would you consider a upgrade from a P5W to a EVGA nForce 680i SLi a good upgrade - much of a performance leep ?

7. what settings would I need to change in the Bios to make my E6400 run at 3.3Ghz ??

sorry for all the ?`s !! no doubt most wont get answerd but worth a cheeky try ! :D

If it's a different chipset, you will probably need to re-install windows. Never done it with Vista though, maybe it's a bit more robust about that sort of thing though...

Installing a new motherboard is arguably the hardest part of upgrading, given that everything connects into it so effectively you are doing a complete build. Here's what I do:

-First of all, make sure you have all drivers etc downloaded ready. Plenty of space on one HD to install windows
-Lay motherboard on a desk, cardboard box or whatever
-Install RAM, CPU, HS/fan, gfx card
-Connect 20pin & 4 pin power leads from psu
-Connect cpu fan header and gfx card power molexes if applicable
-Plug keyboard, monitor and case cables in
-Boot up and make sure system is posting, detecting all RAM etc
-Now unplug all cables, keyboard and gfx card
-Screw motherboard into case risers (assuming these are already fitted)
-Re-attach cables, keyboard and gfx card
-POST again to make sure you haven't knocked anything loose or mobo shorting on chassis
-Now attach everything else (expansion cards, drives, usb devices etc)
-Boot up, check everything is detected in BIOS and tweak a few settings (disable all onboard hardware you won't be using, set boot priority, enable quick post, disable fullscreen logo etc)
-Reboot and install windows!
