Hi there,

I'm fairly new to pc building to please go easy on me. I need some advice. Ive put together a list of what im going to get. I'm a Designer but i also enjoy gaming in my spare time so a fast and powerful pc is what im aiming for. The one thing im stuck on though is knowing what size PowerSupply im going to need for this beast. So here is my list so far:

1) *OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 4.00GHz / Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard / Corsair 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle []

2) Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5970 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

3) Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case

4) Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (NOT SURE ON)

5) Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

6) LG CH08LS10 8x Blu-Ray Reader/16x DVD±RW

7) Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM

So this is my beast to be. However just wanted some people in the know to look over this setup and advise me on anything wrong before i end up ordering :P

Thanks

M

The Corsair psu will be more than enough :)

Will the WD green be used for a boot hard drive or just for storage.

whats the difference? Sorry if thats a stupid question. I was just going to use it for storage really. Also, do i need added fans or will the case fans be enough to keep everything running nicely?

They tend to be slightly lower performance, so they tend to be used for storage. For Operating system and main hard drive have a look at the Samsung F3 (500GB) or the Western Digital black.

I am not 100% sure on what fans come with the case.

Case comes with 6 fans pre-installed, all with 3 speed switch (as most Antec cases)

I believe it comes with a 200mm top fan, 2 120's at the back for exaust and 3 at the front.

So cooling wise no extra purchase is required to keep this baby safe?

sorry for the mass of questions. So i should replace the HD im thinking about getting and go for a 500GIG for storage and installing the OS on? Or do i keep one for Booting the OS and one for Storage?

I would keep your current drive speced for storage and get one for operating system / main usage, ie the Samsung F3 :)

I use the Samsung F1 for my boot drive and a wd drive for storage.

Generally the antec pre-installed fans are pretty good for pulling and pushing air, noise may be an issue so you may want to maybe look at changing them if your doing quiet work (when gaming you wont hear them unless you have them ramped up on high)

Generally the case is pretty big and has good cabling options, so should keep everything nice and cool. The bundle your looking at comes with a Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 so that should take good care of your chip.

It will be safe, I know people that have simular systems in 300's and even lower end cases

I just got my antec 1200 delivered today, and its a beast! Nothing to put in it yet though, but it will keep your system nice and chilly. He meant get a 500GB Samsung F3 drive for OS and apps, so they are a bit faster to load, and maybe a 500GB-1TB WD Green for storage as this is slightly slower but also less power hungry and quieter.

Thanks, your a star I will do that ;)

Ahh i think i get it. So the 500 gig would boot my OS and any installed programs i.e. Photoshop / Games and save files and work / music all gets whacked on the 1TB drive.

Yep, your spot on :D

Comes in handy if the operating system fails or you change system, you don't have to worry about documents etc, just need to re-install software :)

Ahh so simple yet never crossed my mind before :p - Cheers though, this will save me so much hassle as thats happened a lot to me having to move around bulk files. Woo hoo!

Ideally yeah, it's more expensive of course but if the operating system fails it's a godsend having everything on a different drive. Especially recommended is keeping work on both, as if either drive dies you have a backup.

The corsair is exactly what you want. The bundle probably is too, but I always recommend overclocking it yourself if you have time available. It's cheaper, and when in the future something goes wrong you're much better placed to fix it.

Good advice although im a little afraid of overclocking due to my lack of knowledge on the subject. I'd prefer having it pre-bought overclocked :P - I'll see how my budget looks once i get payed in the coming week or two . But well looking forward to this as my current setup is over 6 years old.. poor thing is a pentium 4 3GHZ with 1 gig of ram.. the slowest sort ever made, and a crappy 250 gig HD. Ive kept it going a long time haha
