5 years ago I spent a 'tidy' amount of cash on a watercooling system with the idea being to have a totally quiet well cooled system
well I got a well cooled system but sadly it was never quiet with the pump and fans making it far noisier than the stock air solution!!!

anyway to cut a long story short the kit I bought and still have was a selection of Danger Den stuff for a Intel Pent 5 build (I took it out after about 2 years) the noise was killing me

the pump I have if I remember correctly is an enermax it came in two flavours at the time forgotten off the top of my head its correct name
its boxed up in the garage for the last couple of years but no way is it going back in

the Radiator is a doubled up one and I still have everything

I am just about to start a new build and was going to stick with the stock cooler but after reading all you guys doing it am wondering if I should buy the extra bits to get this setup working again

so my questions are will a water block for a pent 5 fit a current Intel Z77 mobo
and which pumps are extreme quiet these days - no way can I go back to how it was in the old days its got to be whisper quiet or totally silent if possible

another question on my pipes I used the old fashioned jubilee circlips to tighten the pipes to the barbs

on these new one's I see in the gallery in this forum the connectors look to be a far better looking and simpler solution to what they used to be like when I set mine up so how exactly do they connect to stay water tight
they look great by the way

so in essence any help at all to transform my old kit into a new quiet super duper kit I feel pretty sure my water block should be fine if the screw holes line up and I see no reason why the radiator should not be put to good use

so all answers will be greatly accepted Please
regards
Chris

The block was the top line danger den when I bought it and the radiator is a thermochill pa2 which fits 2 120mm fans I bought 2 silencex fans which were supposedly the best thing since fried bread at the time but overall it was as noisy as hell
but the temps were very good

Thanks guys for some good and helpful info
not sure wether to go ahead with this project or just stick with the stock air cooler now

My Danger Den waterblock certainly kept my PC running way cooler that the stock air cooler could on the Pent 5 machine

does the Z77 board and chip run massively hotter than the old Pent 5

or is it that the stock air coolers have caught up with 5 year old top of the range water blocks I guess

funnily enough on my last water cooled setup the pump was out of case and tried various methods to quieten it down
at one point I had it fasten to the underside of my desktop worktable suspended via Bungee elasticated straps to reduce the vibration etc

another I had it stood on a piece of flat foam - but at the end of day it was just far too loud for my tastes - and as such it will never be going back in my setup

at the start I was thinking a new pump would suffice for me going back to water cooling but now I find my water block is really not any better than standard air coolers of today so am having a rethink for a few days

but you guys have given me plenty to think about
