I have a 2010 27 inch iMac and while under repair it was badly damaged by AMSYS who repaired it on behalf of Applecare. To sum it up Apple have said they are going to replace it for the 2012 Model, with equal or better performance. With me waiting for the e-mail on what they are going to offer to replace it with.
When I purchased it, I maxed out all specs apart from RAM which I upgraded myself.
It had:
. i7 870
. 2TB HDD
. AMD 5750 1GB
They will undoubtedly replace it based upon performance rather than 'tiers' of original purchase which opens up some questions on my behalf in order to get the best deal for my self.
In terms of graphics cards on the new 27 inch models id be offered the 675MX since its the only one apart from the 680mx which has 1GB+ VRAM (even though some of the lower tier options still destroy my 5750) Id probably offer to pay the difference for the 680MX.
For HDD i'm almost defiantly going to be lumped with the 3TB drive, but again il probably pay the difference and try and get the 3TB fusion drive.
Now the reason I posted in the CPU section is for the CPU question. The two CPU's I will be offered are the i5 3470 or the i7 3770. Compared to my i7 870 both out perform and benchmark higher. However, my 870 had an 8MB L3 cache and Hyper threading which are lacking in the i5 option. I use my iMac for most everyday tasks and Web Designing for some extra work, if I ever need some serious grunt I use my gaming rig ( in sig below).
My question to you guys is, even though I have no argument apart from the fact my old i7 870 had the features mentioned above, how would you try and convince Apple to give me the i7 option over the i5.
Many thanks,
James
P.S. Sorry for Essay as I know you guys hate them
