Hi I have decided to upgrade my 3200+ to a X2 4400+ CPU.

This will be the first time I have ever installed a CPU on my PC so I was wondering if any one could answer any of the ?`s below. ;)

1. If I wanted to can I use the CPU fan that is currently installed on my PC with my 3200+ or would I need to make sure I use the fan that was made for the 4400+ ? - Its just that I am not to sure If a fan is included from the place I bought my 4400+ from.

2. thermal paste - do I just spread it all over the chip or just in certain places ?

3. Is it as easy as take my fan off my old CPU, put my new CPU in, throw some paste on top and put the fan back on top of it, then just upgrade my bios to the version that supports this new chip and thats it ?

4. I take it you guys who overlcok your CPU`s use some sort of software which will allow you to change the defualt settings to increas the speed of the chip ? IF so what software do you use ?

thanks for help people !! I did try to order the 4400+ threw this site but my card wont go threw for some reason so was forced to buy else were.

Hope this doesnt stop you from helping me ;) even thou all my upgrades have been bought from this site

1. Yes you can provided that the fan you are using on your 3200 is the same for the same socket as your 4400+

2. A blob about the size of 2 rice grains in the center of the cpu, let the hsf spread it when you put it on.

3. Pretty much. But before you install your new CPU make sure you update your bios first before installing it.

4. Most people overclock via the bios..:)

Hope this helps.

thanks mate ! this forum rocks for people responding so fast - cool site !

I no I cant put a link to the place I bought it from but I am little worried if this chip I have bought is a diffrent version of the 4400+, its just on this overclockers site it says that the 4400+ is a 1MB L2 cache.

On the site I am buying it from it gives this info

"Built in support for 64-bit applications HyperTransport Technology Integrated DDR memory controller for maximum performance and efficiency supporting PC3200, PC2700, PC2100 and PC1600 DDR SDRAM !!512KB!! total on die cache memory to speed up memory access and reduce processor bottlenecks Enhanced multimedia instructions including 3DNow! 3 Years Manufacturer Warranty "

is this card I am buying 512KB speed ??

Little confused here just want to make sure I am getting the right card ;) as not sure if there is 2 versions of the 4400+ a 512kb chip and a 1mb

Ok, I believe its Retail because of the last line... '3 Years Manufacturer Warranty' therfore will include a HSF. 4400+ are known to come with the newer AMD ones with heatpipes, see here :D
