Hi Guys,

I have recently built a new computer everything went smoothly except for one thing, I have a 256gb Samsung 840 Pro as my main drive with windows 8 installed fine, I have a basically brand new 1TB samsung as a secondary drive, which did show up as an option originally along with the 840 pro to install the OS on but once I installed windows on the 840 pro I could not see the 1TB drive in "My Computer"

I have gone to Manage > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management and the drive does not show there either.

I have a suspision that my bro might have previously tried to install an OS on this drive could this be why it is not showing? and if this is the case how can I format it so I can use it as a backup drive to store data?

Thanks
Rhys

Does the 1TB SSD show up in the BIOs?

If so, I'd guess it's just a matter of getting the computer to refresh the hard drive list to recognise the 1TB SSD.

Was the 1TB plugged in while you was installing the OS to the SSD?

I had a similar issue to you, it required a fresh install with only the SSD plugged in.

Then plugging in the HDD and going to Disk manager and configuring the HDD

Thanks for the responses!

The drive was not showing in disk management so was unable to set a drive letter.
I did install the the OS on the SSD whilst the HDD was plugged in.

I found some free software that allowed me to see the drive, wipe it and then set a new partition and set a drive letter.

Thanks for your help.
