I am currently running a S754 Athlon 64 3000 with a 9800 XT Agp gfx card, 1 gb DDR Ram, 19" L90D+ monitor, SB XFI Xtreme music sound card. And I have been trying to upgrade for about a year but I keep seeing new things coming out (I blame waiting for R600). oh and I have had this case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-030-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=29 for about 3+ years now.
Problem: A friend of mine wants to buy this pc from me and would like it within the next few weeks. I've managed to get her to hold off so I can get an x38 motherboard. But I would like some suggestions on what to get.
I would ideally like to hold off getting a top end graphics card until the new nvida card comes out on november 12(hopefully). So what to get in the interim.
Im looking at buying
Q6600 G0
Not sure to go for a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme or go water ( never done water before so any suggestions tips help price range etc would be helpful. I will be overclocking.
Not sure what to do with regards ram, do i go ddr2 or get some cheap ddr3 and when the price drops get more?
was thinking maybe Crucial Ballistix but what speed. i would prefer 2x2 sticks but they dont make them in the Crucial Ballistix range
x38 motherboard ( im looking for something with dts connect on it as im looking to hook it up through my denon 2807 amp), might consider the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude if it turns out to be any good so wouldnt need the dts connect on the motherboard then)
Im also looking for a 24" WS monitor ~£400 ish ex vat (1920 res)
what gfx card to get until november? I need something that has dvi on it but can also connect to my sony bravia via vga, so a vga connection or a dvi to vga conversion.
The machine will be used for a lot of things, gaming, rendering, photoshop, encoding, server, you name it ill be using doing it on here. I might consider upgrading the ram to 8gb at a later date which is why i was looking at 2x2 ram sticks.
What would you buy??
Also im looking to run a duel boot system of
SUSE Linux x64 bit
Windows XP Pro 32bit
Windows Vista Ultimate x64
so linux drivers on parts would be nice/essential
Budget wise im looking at about £1000 (ex vat) ex graphics card, also the monitor can be purchased later as im keeping this monitor. And im trying to talk myself into buying one of those stacker cases :x
Help!
