Hi.

I posted about a problem I am having in the graphics forum here.

To cut a long story short, I am having crashes where the fans on the graphics card go to 100% and my monitor goes into standby. Ive ruled out driver issues because this has happened in the bios and during post. This sometimes happens as soon as I switch the machine on.

Im ruling out heat issues because Ive monitored the temps having set manual fan speeds and its crashed in windows with indicated temps of 55c. I have good cooling, 5 case fans and an enormous case. CPU temps at idle 30c and below.

My last straw is that perhaps my voltages are not high enough as I have 8GB RAM (4x2GB sticks) but everything at stock.

System specs are:

Q6600
HD4870 - Latest Drivers.
8GB DDR2 RAM
Gigabyte EP45-DQ6 - Latest Bios
1000w PSU Corsair

I really am clutching at straws now but can someone tell me of anything I might of missed in the bios... pci express frequency? MCH voltages? RAM voltages?

I have taken the card out and given it a clean up and re-seated it etc and no joy. Both PSU connections are plugged in also to rule that out. When I built the machine I had no problems. This has been an ongoing problem for a few months now.

Any other suggestions?

The ram modules should have a lable stating voltage and timings.
Increase the MCH voltage a couple of notches.

What is the make / model of the ram being used.

I used to have random crashes etc with my 4870 and it turned out one of my 2gb Ram sticks was faulty, so I took it out. Never had a single problem since. If all the voltages and timings are right then do a memtest to rule out a faulty stick

Separate issue or possibly related.

What would be the possible cause of my monitor entering standby on a warm boot and sometimes cold boot? Its not a consistent problem but it happens often enough that it is an issue.

I have upped my northbridge voltages a notch and the ram voltages a little and im not getting the issues I mentioned above as yet. I have run prime and intel burn test for the past couple of hours and no issues.

However I just did a restart and at post the monitor went into standby and stayed like it. Windows loaded as I heard the logging theme, however I had to do a hard reset to get my monitor back. The cable is firmly seated into the monitor and graphics card.

Still looking at a dodgy card? Dodgy cable? Dodgy monitor? Some setting somewhere? Im stuck.
