Advice required - Improving Sky Q wifi: Extender? Alternative Access Point? Mesh?

So our house is a fairly typical 3 bedroom detached house, with a single story extension down the side. My office is in this extension and that's where the internet comes into the property and where our Sky Q Router is placed. ie: So it has a double brick wall immediately in the way of the rest of the house.

My fibre gives me about 26mbps down.

Now, I can get wifi around the whole house (on my phone) fairly well, but in a couple of the up bedrooms (upstairs) some devices complain of a poor signal (or even fail to connect at times). While sitting in bed I can still download on my phone at 11mbps while other devices will at times fail to connect. Confusing!

So... The two things I'm looking to do:-
1) Get better wifi around the house, specifically the upstairs bedrooms.
2) Ideally get better wifi to our front door (which is on the other side of the house to my study) incase I want to put a Ring doorbell up. ie: Put some sort of wifi sender/mesh unit under our stairs next to that front door, hopefully also getting some wifi signal into the upstairs bedrooms too?

Mesh
I've been looking at Google Wifi or Amplifi HD. I love the idea of the interface (on my phone) these would give, but wonder if they're going to be totally overkill. ie: My existing router is just about serving the whole house, so will a Mesh solution be absolutely over the top to get just a bit more signal upstairs?

Problem: The notion of having the complication/risk of a new router off the back of my Sky Q router, doesn't fill me with confidence. ie: I run a game server on a dedicated PC, and have plex etc etc... It would be a real pain if the two routers prove to not want to play ball! Or if I get a Sky Q Hub, and that doesn't like the alternative network etc.

Homeplugs with Mesh
I have a homeplug network going up from the study to our bedroom, and into our garage, and they seem pretty rock solid.

So the Devolo Magic 2 with powerline tech, with each plug also offering a local Mesh wifi, is appealing. ie: I could replace my existing two homplugs (in the garage and in our bedroom) with these and that might solve the wifi issues upstairs, as well as improving throughput! And I could put another one under the stairs near the front door should I get a Ring doorbell.

Problem: Expensive, and an unknown new tech. No interface to let you know devices attached and usage etc, but that's not super important.

Pros: Plug them in, done!

Some sort of extender/repeater
Is there some other option I'm missing like say using say something like a Netgeat EX7500 simply to extend my existing wifi network?

Pros : Plug it in, done! And the beauty of this device is basically it seems to be a mesh result using your existing router? Done... And this would be the cheapest solution at only about £100!

Any advice/suggestions? Especially from someone who's been down this same road?

You could get Sky Q boosters, it extends the Sky Q mesh similar to Google WiFi or AmpliFi.
Well... Well... Well... And a bit more well...

So this creates a mesh network using the Sky Q Router and this booster? And I assume you could could use a couple of them?

There's surprisingly/worryingly little info on the web about them!? eg: Not a single youtube review.

And even more worryingly, comments like this:-
When I contacted Sky and asked about these 'blackspots', after running through their usual actions to help improve my signal, I was told by a very honest chap that the Booster, is only to boost the Sky Q TV signal to the smaller Sky Q mini boxes, NOT the WiFi signal. When I then told him that the Mini boxes were supposed to be WiFi extenders to my understanding, again he said NOT. They had originally been designed with this intention, but since their roll out, they had tons of problems with signals getting crossed and dropped, so they have scrapped that capability!!!

EDIT: I can see a number of comments contradicting that comment above... Which is good...

BUT, this from the official page suggesting your speed is halved isn't good:-
This means that if your Booster was receiving a strong signal, the Booster would provide approximately half the speed to your device, compared to if the device was connected directly to your Hub.

That's pretty much the same with most mesh systems. Some do have dedicated 5GHz backhauls though.

Sky Q mini boxes also extend the mesh if you have any.

Alas, on Sky HD+, and just have the latest Sky Q Router... I'll contact them and see if I can get one free anyway, or at a reduced price.

Interestingly, Sky are releasing a new router this year I've just read.

And I also believe you can now use your own router (eg: an TP-Link Archer VR2800).

Well, sky will sell me one of their boosters for £40, and give me a 14 day trial... Interesting!

Well, plugged the Sky Booster in. Not an epic improvement, but certainly enough to fix the problem of the dead spots up stairs, while also providing a good signal at the front door :)
