Advice sought regarding archiving VHS Videos.

I am looking to archive some old VHS tapes before my video player finally dies.

What would people consider to be the best media for archiving (Flash, HDD, DVD/Blu Ray/SSD etc)

And what would people consider to be the best file type (I am looking for a lossless system)

For sheer ease and convenience I would look at getting a Panasonic VHS/DVDR combo unit (you can't buy them new anymore will have to source one on ebay). You can then keep a copy on DVD and back up to HDD.
