Got The G1 970 last week, not had chance to install yet.
noticed today that OC have got new Ek water block for this model.
have had 2 previous cooled cards, but where oc techlab cards, pre fitted.
some of you will say card don't need wc, but want to do it :)

so my questions are.
is fitting water block to cards Hard?
any special tools
any tips?

cheers :P

having just watched youtube for 970 blocks & from u 2. hoping can do ok :P
cheers, ordering now :)

Just remember the standard backplate does not fit with the waterblock. So tou will either have to go without a backplate or buy the EK one. Personally i went without.

It looks a lot scarier than it is :D. I was sweating it but it was quite easy in retrospect and makes a huge difference.

Cotton buds and IPA are highly reccomended.

ah, was hoping could use that as well, more money :(
thanks guys:)

Fitting water blocks sounds scary, but in reality it is no harder than removing the GPU cooler to clean it, just your putting a different looking one back on.

Yup not hard i wc my ocuk 970 1st time doing it , take your time beware of fan headers & led headers if your card has that when removing the cooler.

I watched a few you tube vids for tips dos and dont's ect..

got it today, was easier than thought, idle, 27c, running some benchmarks the now, yet to see it go over 45C, very happy :)

Winter time... when booting up on my 980 its not even 20c, The direction cards seem to be going makes me rather happy. Side note because no one said it, just don't press too hard on the block when flipping it to install the screws in the back.

Really easy to do. Mine is a Strix 970 and like everyone else's it seems to never creep over 45C.

Owned 2 970 G1 Gaming before I traded them for a 980 SC.

Yes, they never creep above 70 on air, but it's not exactly quiet either.

But to be fair, only if you are a quiet gamer, w/c 970 will be worth it.

If your PC is at the other side of the room and you only use a closed headphone when you game, then leave it on air.

Unfortunately, I use open headphone and my PC is right next to where I sit........

And I love the look of watercooled systems :D
